The village board met on Tuesday, May 27th at 6:30 pm. The agenda of items discussed at the meeting can be found here. These meeting recap posts aren’t going to be me going over every single agenda item in detail, though if anyone finds themselves having more questions about something that was on the agenda, please feel free to reach out. Better yet – I strongly encourage residents to attend our board and committee meetings. All are open to the public and we welcome anyone who wishes to come. These recap posts are going to be highlights of some things I personally think are important / or am excited to see progress.
K9 officer Rueger has served the Minooka police department for several years, helping bring significant amounts of drugs off of the street. Many officers who have worked with Rueger were in attendance and there was a very nice sendoff for him. He will be retiring with his handler, Minooka sergeant Matthew Juras.
The board authorized an agreement with a fiber-optic internet provider (Surf) to utilize the village’s right-of-ways to be able to build their fiber-optic infrastructure to provide fast, reliable internet to our residents. This will be a great economic incentive for businesses. There is a significant probability that the residents who don’t switch internet providers will benefit as well, as other internet service providers tend to compete harder when there’s a fiber-optic provider in the area, driving costs down for our residents.
We also approved several ordinances that establish the rules for combination pole signs for businesses along the highway. This allows multiple businesses to utilize a single pole so we can reduce unsightly poles popping up in our community. I want to sincerely thank village staff and our planning and zoning commission for working on this as there were a lot of complexities to iron out and they did an excellent job.
The liquor commission also recommended an ordinance change that the village board passed that will make it easier for our local non-profits to host events. The change will allow non-profits to have certain fees waived, including fees for background checks.
The full meeting minutes will be available after the village board approves them at the next meeting. I encourage participation in our committee meetings, and you can find the full schedule of events on the village website.
Thanks for reading, talk soon!
