One of the priorities I’ve consistently heard from residents is simple: we want more to do right here in Minooka.
Whether it’s family-friendly festivals, seasonal celebrations, or community gatherings, people are looking for more opportunities to connect, have fun, and enjoy everything our town has to offer – without having to leave it.
I’m excited to share that we’re taking a meaningful step forward.
A New Events Advisory Group
Following a recommendation from the Economic Development & Public Relations Committee, the Village is forming a new Events Advisory Group. This group will bring together:
- Downtown businesses
- Local nonprofits
- Service organizations
The goal is to collaborate, share ideas, and help grow a stronger, more active events calendar in Minooka.
By involving organizations that are already deeply connected to our community, we can build events that reflect what residents actually want, and create experiences that bring people together.
Dedicated Support for Events
To make this effort successful, the Village plans to hire a full-time Events Coordinator. This role will serve as a liaison between the Village and the advisory group, helping to:
- Organize and streamline event planning
- Support local groups in hosting events
- Ensure strong communication and coordination
- Make our current events better than ever while supporting new events
This is about creating structure and consistency so events aren’t just occasional – but something our community can count on.
Investing in Tourism and Community Activity
At our recent budget meeting, the board discussed committing $25,000 in hotel/motel tax funding toward events.
By law, these funds must be used to:
- Attract visitors from outside the community
- Encourage tourism
That means we’re not just creating events for residents – we’re also bringing new people into Minooka to support our local businesses and economy.
Working Together for a More Active Minooka
This initiative is about partnership.
The Village is committed to working alongside:
- Local businesses
- Community organizations
- Residents
to build a stronger, more vibrant calendar of events that benefits everyone.
Looking Ahead
This is just the beginning, but it’s an important step toward making Minooka a place where there’s always something happening – something that brings neighbors together and gives families more reasons to stay, connect, and enjoy their community.
I’m proud to have helped move this recommendation forward, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can build together.
